Allen-Bradley® PanelView™ displays with UL listings reduce installation time and expense

MILWAUKEE, May 22, 2003 — To help customers save time and reduce the cost of equipment certification, Rockwell Automation has announced that its Allen-Bradley® PanelView™ line of operator interface products has received the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listing for Class I Division 2, Class II Division 2, and Class III Division 1 locations in the United States and Canada.

As UL-listed products, PanelView operator interfaces meet the United States National Electric Code and Canadian Electrical Code standards of certification for hazardous location equipment installations. The UL-certified Allen-Bradley PanelView line reduces installation time and expense by allowing OEMs and end users to install the operator interface directly into the application and avoid the cost of additional equipment and recertification. “For machine builders, OEMs and end users who spend time searching for components with acceptable environmental ratings, having this certification is a significant time- and money-saver,” said Clark Kromenaker, marketing manager, Rockwell Automation.

“Without the appropriate UL listing, companies spend an average of $5,000 to have their installation recertified to meet their hazardous locations requirements. The new hazardous location ratings mean that PanelView products can now be used in industries that were previously off-limits to the operator interface,” he said. The PanelView terminals offer a rugged electronic operator interface in a variety of sizes and configurations from stand-alone single systems to multi-layer, enterprise-wide solutions. Each system is capable of providing process information over a variety of communication protocols including DeviceNet™, ControlNet™, Data Highway Plus™, Remote I/O, DF1 (RS-232), DH-485™, PROFIBUS, and Modbus™.
