September 4, 2008 - RuggedCom released two new products which support Power over Ethernet (PoE) functionality, the RuggedServer RS416P Serial Device Server and the RuggedRouter RX1000P Network Router. These two products complement the currently available PoE version of the RuggedSwitch RSG2100 Ethernet Switch. Power over Ethernet provides the ability to transmit electrical power, along with data, to remote devices over standard twisted-pair cable in an Ethernet network.
The introduction of these new products gives RuggedCom one of the industry’s most complete product baskets of PoE capable network infrastructure equipment. The RuggedCom PoE products are compliant with the IEEE 802.af PoE standard making them compatible with any 802.3af powered device. The PoE ports are also “auto-sensing”, providing power only when a PoE enabled end-device is present.
In addition, and as with all RuggedCom products, the RuggedCom PoE products are RuggedRated for harsh environments. RuggedRated products: meet or exceed a wide range of industry standards; provide a high level of immunity to electromagnetic interference and heavy electrical surges; feature a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C (no fans); can be powered from a variety of sources (12VDC, 24VDC, 48VDC, 88-300VDC/35-264VAC); and have high MTBF and reliability characteristics. All of these features allow RuggedCom products to be placed in almost any location for great installation flexibility.
RuggedCom is committed to expanding its product line in order to provide customers with the most complete line of rugged communications networking solutions designed for harsh environments in mission critical environments. The PoE products join RuggedCom’s existing solutions that include: the RuggedRouter network router and cyber security appliance; the RuggedSwitch Ethernet switch; RuggedWireless wireless devices; the RuggedServer serial device server; the RuggedMC media converter; applications software such as RuggedNMS network management software and RuggedCom Gauntlet secure user access and authentication; and a wide range of professional services, including consulting, network design, and training.
“The use of PoE devices reduces installation and cable run costs, and permits quicker and less disruptive installations of powered devices,” explains Roger Moore, VP of Engineering for RuggedCom. “PoE enabled devices such as VoIP phones, surveillance cameras, badge readers, and wireless access points, are enabling new applications for our customers. RuggedCom continues to be at the forefront in developing innovative networking infrastructure products that take advantage of these new capabilities.”
