The company, a leading innovator in networking technology, will package its tried and tested EtherPAD range and also launch the exciting new PocketPAD range under this banner. Sean McCree, the company's Marketing Manager, says the low-cost, high-performance PocketPAD range rollout will start in February 2004. If recently completed field tests provide a measure of its capabilities, this range will be an industry leader.
The entry-level PocketPAD 1 comes with a single RS232 interface and provides seamless serial-to-Ethernet access. This unit together with the two and four port versions offer unequaled value-for-money. Additional variants, to be released in March 2004, will support a RS422/485 and a fibre-optic Ethernet interface. The next show stoppers of the new range are a cost-saving 802.3af Power-over-Ethernet interface and a state-of-the-art Multidrop Ethernet interface.
A feather in the cap of the company's development engineers is that the complete range with all its diverse specifications, including the Linux based firmware embedded on the latest Atmel ARM9 processor, was developed "spot on target"; a daunting task for most development houses. This, of course, enables the company to deliver superior time-to-market schedules, which allows customers to get the latest available technology sooner. The entry-level products have been given a vote of confidence by one of South Africa's largest corporations by reserving the first 1000 units off the production line.
