ATLANTA (August 13, 2004) – Siemens Energy & Automation has named Thomas Varney as its first-ever vice president of Corporate Communications. “Tom Varney brings an ideal background to the task of leading our communications and marketing functions at a time when we are committed to a strong growth strategy,” said Aubert Martin, president and CEO of Siemens Energy & Automation.Varney will report to the CEO and have responsibility for all of Siemens Energy & Automation’s external and internal communications, including marketing communications, public relations and employee communications.

Before joining Merck, Varney worked for nearly 15 years with Siemens Corp., New York. He had served as managing director of Public Relations for Siemens in the United States and as vice president of Communications for the Siemens Foundation.
Prior to that Varney also served as Siemens Southeast regional manager of public relations based at Siemens Energy & Automation’s Alpharetta headquarters.Before joining Siemens, Varney held several communications posts for General Electric, including stints in the International Sector, at Disney World and at several of GE’s automation businesses.
