Dynsim 3.3 To Deliver Improved Modeling and Enhanced Customization Capabilities for Process Industry Plants

LAKE FOREST, Calif., July 8, 2004 -- SimSci-Esscor, an operating unit of Invensys Systems, Inc., today announced the next release of the Dynsim dynamic process simulator solution. The upgrade features significantly improved modeling and enhanced visualization capabilities. It can be used in a variety of industrial process applications including oil and gas processing, refining, petrochemical, chemical, pharmaceuticals manufacturing, engineering and construction.

"With this latest generation of the Dynsim product, SimSci-Esscor continues to provide one of the most powerful and tightly integrated dynamic simulation solutions for use over a project's complete lifecycle," said Cal Depew, SimSci-Esscor's manager of dynamic simulation products. "The newly added features and improved visualization benefits both design and operations by allowing Dynsim to use the same model in multiple applications, such as process design studies, control system evaluation and checkout, operator training, and plant performance improvement." Version 3.3 of the Dynsim solution has been upgraded to deliver improved modeling of liquefied natural gas (LNG), natural gas liquids and ethylene plants.

Incorporating a new heat exchanger model, Dynsim 3.3 can be used to simulate various LNG spiral wound and plate-fin heat exchanger designs. There also are new equipment models to simulate more types of plant equipment and additional enhanced capabilities in the area of simulation visualization. The solution's improved modeling of rotating equipment now allows motor torque curves and multiple compressor performance curves. Compressor operation can also be visualized through a dynamic plot of compressor operation with respect to its performance curves.

The new version also includes improved refinery modeling, which provides better support for crude assays and an atmospheric tank model.Dynsim is integrated with SimSci-Esscor's Pro/II enhanced steady-state simulation program. Pro/II is SimSci-Esscor's flagship process simulation program that performs rigorous mass and energy balances for a wide range of plant processes.

Dynsim opens and automatically translates steady-state Pro/II simulations into a dynamic simulation model.Engineers and operators can use Dynsim 3.3 to perform basic design studies, operational troubleshooting, control system checkouts and comprehensive evaluations of standard and emergency operational procedures. It enables superior control system design and revamp with minimal risk while shortening time requirements for safe plant startup and shutdown procedures. It also can routinely help prevent production interruptions while increasing plant efficiency and safety.

Operators can also use it to improve emergency response procedures and prevent expensive equipment damage. Dynsim is part of SimSci-Esscor's Dynamic Simulation Suite (DSS), which provides the full power of rigorous dynamic simulation and control emulation for plant engineers, operators, and managers. All DSS programs, including Dynsim, FSIM and TRISIM, offer interoperatability features enabling seamless integration options for meeting specific plant requirements. In addition, Dynsim readily interfaces to other industry standard applications and incorporates SimSci-Esscor's SIM4ME user environment, which is designed to help businesses build open computing solutions for the process industries.
