Ultra Electronics adds military crypto to EtherGuard L3 security device

10 September, 2014
FIPS 140-2 level 2 validation was added to the EtherGuard L3 endpoint security device, enhancing machine-to-machine communications.

September 10, 2014 - Ultra Electronics added FIPS 140-2 level 2 validation for the EtherGuard L3 endpoint security device enhancing machine-to-machine communications. The EtherGuard L3 crypto appliance now extends FIPS-validated security out to network endpoints and provides firewall and deep packet inspection (DPI) for critical applications operating at the network edge. Operators of industrial networks will benefit from EtherGuard’s low-cost, easy configuration, and ability to retrofit legacy systems with state-of-the-art cyber protection. The hardware-based VPN security appliance has extremely low-latency and is protected with high-grade encryption for optimized security and reliable operations.

EtherGuard L3 provides impenetrable point-to-point or point-to-multipoint data communications security at the network layer. Using proprietary DarkNode® technology, the EtherGuard L3 expands cyber secure protection over the Internet to provide a more scalable network for added value in end device high-speed encryption. EtherGuard L3 supports certificate-based 802.1X port authentication protocol that simplifies the device authentication inherent in a network's M2M communications. When installed with endpoint devices such as a PLC (programmable logic controller), ATM or card printer that have no built-in security, EtherGuard L3 will authenticate and validate all traffic to ensure that information is reliably transmitted and is unaltered.

EtherGuard L3 plugs a cyber vulnerability by providing a device with the same level of protection as a PC that is guarded and controlled in a network.
