Provides Vital Instrument Connectivity To Improve Manufacturing Processes and Maximize Return on Investment Charlottesville, Va. - May 31, 2006 - GE Fanuc Automation, a unit of GE Industrial, today announced the next iteration of its comprehensive Process Analytical Technology (PAT) solution for the Life Sciences industry. Proficy® RX, based on technology from Symbion Systems, allows for unprecedented production connectivity, data collection and analysis, and provides a solid foundation for companies seeking to better understand and improve their processes. PAT is a system for designing, analyzing and controlling manufacturing through timely measurements of critical quality and performance attributes of raw and in-process materials. The goal of PAT is to ensure final product quality.
"This is a best-in-class solution for Life Science customers," said Larry Ambrose, Global Director of Life Sciences for GE Fanuc Automation. "As GE Fanuc further develops solutions based on the Symbion technology, we will be integrating them into the Proficy platform extending the already robust capabilities of Proficy Historian with new data models and visualization tools specifically for the pharmaceutical industry." The GE Fanuc/Symbion agreement was announced in March 2006 at INTERPHEX. Symbion Systems brings a wealth of knowledge of the process and Life Sciences industries and a deep understanding of analytical instrumentation and process analysis software.
Combined with GE Fanuc's proven automation record, end-to-end solutions that deliver connectivity, quality and productivity, and large installed base in the Life Sciences industry, the solution becomes even more powerful. "We utilize multiple instrument vendors," said Arthur Mateos, Senior Research Fellow for Merck and Co., Inc. "The RX solution provides great flexibility not only for disparate instrument connectivity, but also for integration with Multivariate Analysis (MVA) software. In addition, it provides the capability to write and include diagnostics in the MVA code.
This is very unique in the industry." The Proficy RX solution is aimed at Process Understanding: • Standardized control and networking of multiple instruments• Preprocessing of captured analytical data• Robust plant data archiving and repository • Interfaces to commercially-available chemometrics packages • Designed for 21 CFR Part 11 Compliance The announcement coincides with Discover 2006, GE Fanuc Automation's User Conference being held in Orlando, Florida. The 3-day conference is highlighting best practices in technology, manufacturing and business.
