October 22, 2013 - Schaffner upgrades ECOsine Active harmonic filters for improvement of power quality. FN 3420-200-690-3 ECOsine Active filters are now available for 3-phase TN and IT 500 - 690 V power grids.

Nowadays, an increasing number of energy-efficient electrical consumers are used in industrial applications, including variable speed drives for motor control. These modern technologies contribute significantly to the reduction of electrical energy consumption; however, as an unwanted byproduct of their operation they can negatively affect the power quality. ECOsine Active harmonic filters deliver a reliable remedy. They provide the system with an opposing corrective current immediately, compensating harmonics, phase shift and load-unbalance at the same time. They dynamically adapt to changing grid and load situations, providing an optimum compensation performance at all times.

FN 3420-200-690-3 can be programmed to the specific needs of the application and provide up to 200 A of corrective current. If more is needed, up to 10 units can be paralleled at the same set of current transformers. Power electronics with 3-level technology are at the core of the filters, helping to significantly reduce power loss. The 690 V active harmonic filters come in sturdy IP54 rated cabinets. A UL-approved version (FN 3420-200-690-3-UL) is currently in preparation.
