ATLANTA (February 25, 2005) – Plant and production engineers can reduce equipment costs and increase efficiency in conveyor belt applications with the new AS-i Extension Plug from Siemens Energy & Automation. Traditionally, the maximum length of a conveyor belt using one AS-Interface master with two repeaters was limited to 300 meters. Now, Siemens AS-i Extension Plug allows each segment of the belt to reach 200 meters before a repeater is used, doubling the potential length of a conveyor with a single AS-Interface network to 600 meters, and eliminating the need for multiple networks.Suitable for all network topologies, including tree, line, and star, the AS-i Extension Plug may be installed at the furthest point from the AS-Interface power supply.
The plug may also be connected within the last 10 meters of cable, minimizing current resistance and impedance. To monitor AS-Interface voltage, and the supply voltage of all connected stations, the AS-i Extension Plug is equipped with an integrated under voltage detection circuit. A flashing green LED indicates when the voltage level falls below the minimum requirement and a message is sent to a higher level controller.Also new from Siemens is AS-i Extension Plug Plus that offers an AS-Interface slave to report under voltages directly to the master in standard data exchange mode. Like AS-i Extension Plug, AS-i Extension Plug Plus is suitable for all network topologies, including tree, line, and star, and only one plug per AS-Interface segment is required.
