Siemens Ruggedcom RS950G achieved a transmission rate of 1 Gbps during an interoperability demonstration by the UCA International Users Group (UCAlug).

August 15, 2014 - Siemens Ruggedcom RS950G has set a speed record: the utility grade IEC 62439-3 compatible product demonstrated a transmission rate of 1 Gbps on HSR (high-availability seamless redundancy) and PRP (Parallel Redundancy Protocol) links. This was achieved during interoperability tests conducted in July 2014 in Bilbao (Spain) in preparation for an interoperability demonstration by the UCA International Users Group (UCAlug), a non-profit organization that includes utilities, suppliers, universities and other institutions from several countries that is dedicated to enhancing interoperability for the utility enterprise using open international standards.

The RS950G is designed to operate reliably in harsh industrial environments such as power generation and distribution, and for rail transport. The results of this recent interoperability test demonstrated that Ruggedcom RS950G meets the demands of the high-speed communications networks of the future by achieving a transmission rate of 1 Gbps on HSR and PRP whilst supporting future-oriented standards such as IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1588. CIGRÉ (Conseil International des Grands Réseaux Électriques/International Council on Large Electric Systems) is an international organization for the exchange of information in the field of electrical energy transmission and supply. The CIGRÉ Session, which is held in Paris in even-numbered years, is the key platform for this exchange.
